1. On top of Old Smoky there lays a deep snow And foot of Old Smoky there runs a clear stream. |

And I'm going to marry pretty Sarah, the queen.
3. It's no long journey I dreading to go;
It's leaving my country for just debts I owe.
4.1 look all around me; I found I was alone. |

5. My love, she won't have me which I understand; She wants a freeholder and 1 have no land.
6. But I think I could maintain her on silver and gold;
I would buy her as many fine things as my love-house could hold.
7. I wish I was some fine pindle — could write some fine hand; I'd write my love a letter that she may understand.
8. I send it by the waters as the island overflows. |
